Theme: The Holy Spirit guides us

Challenge: Make the Holy Spirit the main actor in the Synodal Process

DSC01586

Here are the steps in the Break-out Groups in the Synodal Process:

1. Opening Prayer: “We stand before you, Holy Spirit.”

2. The facilitator gives some background to the Synodal Process. He or she invites participants during the gathering to speak about a specific topic/theme… The sharing features deeper listening and discernment in the light of the Holy Spirit.

3. Participants reflect silently for five minutes preparing their input. Open oneself to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. This is one reason why the Synodal Process is different and can be very creative.

4. Each person speaks for a maximum of three minutes.

5. Five more minutes of silent reflection. Each person takes private notes.

6. After re-reading their notes, each person shares for a further two minutes whatever has enlightened or resonated with them from the sharing of the other people. The participants are invited to consider what the Holy Spirit seemed to be calling them to, what paths are being opened and to note “inner spiritual movements” of joy or sadness, anxiety or confidence, consolation or desolation.

7. Open sharing time of about 20 minutes for “discerning and elaborating the synthesis” that is later written up by the scribe and sent around to participants.
