In today’s Gospel we are reminded that the first missionary after the Resurrection was Mary Magdalene, a woman. She was the first person to see the Risen Christ and then ran and brought the Good News to the Apostles in the Upper Room in Jerusalem. The increasing responsibilities of women in the Catholic Church is one of the main themes in the Summary Report of the First Session of the Sixteenth Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops -- A Synodal Church in Mission -- that was published on 28 October, 2023.
